Overview
The Research Manager and Administrator Network Japan (RMAN-J) pursues activities to establish and develop research administration organizations at public research institutions, including universities, technical colleges, inter-university research institute corporations, national independent administrative agencies, regional independent administrative agencies and special government-affiliated corporations. Its specific goals are to enhance the research capabilities of universities and other institutions throughout Japan and to promote innovation and activities in academia, science and technology through training and improving skills of research administration human resources and exchanging information to share and resolve various issues. The purpose of the annual RMAN-J conference is to determine concrete measures to achieve these goals.
Held annually since the first RMAN-J annual conference in 2015, these conferences have broadened awareness of the RMAN-J and of URAs. The number of participants has grown year after year. As the conference enters a new stage, the RMAN-J will also host INORMS for the first time in Asia, the event scheduled for the next year (2020).
URAs are well-regarded for efforts that advance research capabilities at universities and other research institutions, help secure external funding, and contribute to information-sharing within institutions. At the same time, the study group on enhancing the activities of research administrators, organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, has discussed various related matters, including the importance of quality assurance for URAs and the construction and operation of a certification system. The training and retention of URAs and skills development for them are strongly required for contributions to knowledge creation as the source of innovation and academic research.
This year's annual conference will be organized to achieve further progress and growth of the RMAN-J and URAs themselves while respecting the activity done by host universities and members through the past four annual conferences.
